TMS
rTMS, which stands for Repetitive Trancranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a non-invasive treatment for depression. TMS uses repetitive magnetic pulses delivered to the cerebral cortex to activate nerve cells in the brain. By applying treatment directly to specific regions of the brain associated with depression, it has been shown to provide significant relief in depressive symptoms. This treatment form does not involve any medications and you can return to your normal activities right after treatment.
This treatment is offered through our outpatient office utilizing the most advanced TMS system in the world. TMS involves treatment 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks.
Ketamine Therapy
When given effectively, intravenous Ketamine treatment can target symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Mood Disorders and Neuropathic Pain. It can improve mood and quality of life...often within hours of treatment.
This medication provides a novel approach to mental illness when other treatment forms have been unsuccessful. Initially used as an anesthetic as well as an analgesic, it has been found to provide rapid relief of depressive symptoms in as quickly as a few hours by impacting brain cells in different ways than conventional antidepressant medications.
This treatment is offered on an outpatient basis through our office. Ketamine involves an approximately 40-minute intravenous infusion with a series of treatments determined by your psychiatric need.
Electroconvulsive Therapy
ECT is another form of neurostimulation used to treat various psychiatric disorders such as severe depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and catatonia. Although it is very effective for treating other mental illnesses, it has been considered the gold standard in treating depression that has not resolved despite other treatment interventions. ECT is offered both in the inpatient setting as well as on an outpatient basis through Tempe St. Luke's Hospital.
ECT involves an initial 12 sessions, given three times a week for 4 weeks.
Spravato
SPRAVATO® is a prescription medicine, used along with an antidepressant taken by mouth to treat:
It is a first-of-its kind medicine approved by the FDA in two major depressive disorder (MDD) subpopulations with high unmet need.1
SPRAVATO® is approved in the United States, in conjunction with an oral antidepressant to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and to treat depressive symptoms in adults with MDD with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) CIII nasal spray is a non-selective, non-competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor – an ionotropic glutamate receptor.
