TMS
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation that involves delivering repetitive pulses of magnetic energy to activate nerve cells in specific areas of the brain. These magnetic pulses are used to treat symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder in a somewhat painless manner, allowing you to return to work or your regular daily activities immediately following treatment. Emerging off label uses are being developed for other psychiatric disorders as well as pain disorders. Approximately 50-60% of patients report significant relief of their depressive symptoms, whereas around 30-40% of people report complete resolution of their depression.
Ketamine Therapy
Ketamine has been an FDA approved anesthetic since 1970s but has safely been used as an off label psychedelic therapy for depression, as well as for anxiety, PTSD, OCD , and for some pain syndromes. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a treatment for symptoms of severe episodes of depression, mania, and some forms of schizophrenia. A treatment session involves using a brief, controlled, electrical current to produce a seizure within the brain. The seizure is largely responsible for the therapeutic benefits of ECT. It is theorized that by using a small amount of electricity, brain neurons are activated in cyclical waves to release neurotransmitters involved with your mental health. Research also shows ECT may play a role in creating new nerve connections in the brain. It continues to be considered the gold standard treatment for severe depression , especially where a rapid response is indicated.
